A little bit of generalization – Things I don’t (completely) get in DC and America

  1. Fixed shower above your head in bathrooms which makes thoroughly washing your body a real challenge!
  2. Cashback – Probably meant to save you a trip to some nearby ATM…
  3. Service staffs being super friendly and asking everyone “how’re you doin’?” and talking to you like an old friend
  4. Job positions that you barely find elsewhere, say, professional cuddler (j/k).
  5. People with headsets having their private conversations super loud everywhere
  6. Also people with headphones having their own karaoke shows on public transport
  7. The essential need for self-marketing and branding: If you don’t know how to sell yourself, you don’t exist.
  8. Bunch of taxes, depending on which states
  9. The American dream!
  10. Some going to public library to talk, to have an interview, and to use speaker phone… (But I have to admit, public libraries in DC are excellent!)
  11. Super easy procedure to return purchased items
  12. Tipping “policy” – essentially higher than in Europe and almost compulsory!
  13. People being famous “someone” and at the same time simple, easy-going & willing to help 😀
